In between jobs today, I decided to shoot a weather photo. I wanted to keep dry so I drove to the third level of a parking garage that overlooks Park Street in Peekskill. From there I had a sheltered view of people on the street below. The yellow fire hydrant caught my eye and it wasn’t long before a woman with an umbrella walked past.
The high angle and the telephoto lens compressed the depth, and the resulting photo is almost abstract. I especially like the repeat in color between the curb, hydrant and leaves. The cracks radiating from the base of the hydrant mirroring the ribs of the umbrella was a bonus. I’m still not sure if I should have cropped from the top of the image to eliminate the dark band of the street.
