Hudson Health Plan is hosting a workshop on options for obtaining health insurance on Dec. 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the One Stop Emploment Center, 201 S. James St., Peekskill.
While the workshop, “Unemployed and Uninsured: Know your Options,” is free, participants must be enrolled in a One Stop Employment Center. Mark Santiago, senior vice president, marketing and communications of Hudson, said even the unemployed may be eligible for state-sponsored health insurance programs.
In providing these workshops at One Stops, we will be able to easily reach the uninsured, and answer their questions about quality health and dental care. … We encourage people to ask about insurance for themselves and their children because their health may depend on access to health care. Studies show uninsured people skip screenings and avoid all but the most urgent care. If financial insecurity leads to depression or alcohol abuse, unemployed workers can’t afford to seek professional help. Being unemployed and uninsured can be a prescription for disaster.
