Peekskill’s Hillcrest school concert performance
Peekskill school districts release on the Hillcrest Spring Concert:
The extraordinary musical program that has been building in the Peekskill Schools was on display May 18 in the annual Hillcrest Spring Concert. The fourth and fifth graders drew standing ovations from the packed auditorium at Peekskill High School with their performances under the direction of music teachers David Thomas and Lawrence Del Casale.
The Hillcrest Beginner Band led off the evening with a series of numbers, highlighted by student-teacher duets by Mr. Thomas and Alissa Thompson, Jonah Koen, and Tejahn Lawrence. Both Mr. Thomas and Mr. Hahn, the high school music teacher, performed with Justin Hahn on trombone. The innovative Hillcrest Bucket Brigade, composed of Tyrique Fisher, Emily Lyles, and Melanie Monge, introduced a new instrument and sound to the traditional concert format. Lawrence Del Casale directed the Hillcrest Violin Ensemble, and the directed and accompanied the Hillcrest Chorus. A special highlight was a rendition of “You Are Not Alone,” by Miles Harvey, who seemed to channel the voice of R. Kelly. The evening ended with a rousing finale by all students of the Michael Jackson song, “Black or White,” with the outstanding musical accompaniment of middle and high school musicians Paul Beladino, Charlie DiNota, Manny Henry, Vertis McMillan, and Ryan Ray.
