YORKTOWN — A 21-year-old town man was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated after crashing his car early today, police said.

Officer Kenneth Sgroi was on patrol when police got a call around 2:25 a.m. from a town resident reporting what sounded like a car crash in the Underhill Avenue area, police said.

Sgroi found the accident at Heights and Morningview drives and determined that the driver, Robert M. Ferrante of Morningview Drive, was drunk, police said.

Ferrante was charged with driving while intoxicated and with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 percent, misdemeanors, speeding, failure to maintain lane and improper turn, infractions.

He was released to a family member and is due in Town Court on July 15.
