The Peekskill Area Pastors Association and Mt. Olivet Baptist Church is co-sponsoring a Martin Luther King Jr., community worship service from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday at Peekskill Middle School, 212 Ringgold St., Peekskill. Read below for more information from PAPA on the “Dare to Dream” event:
“Dare to Dream!” is the theme for the interfaith MLK community worship service co-sponsored by the Peekskill Area Pastor’s Association (PAPA) and Mt Olivet Baptist Church, 3 pm on Monday, January 17th at the Peekskill Middle School. The program will feature performances from the Interfaith Adult and Youth Choir, who will lift their voices as a musical tribute to Dr. King’s leadership. In addition the Peekskill-based dance troupe, Staj and Stajettes will also be in appearance. The dance troupe is well-known for their creative, action packed dance movements to a variety of music expressions including, R & B, hip-hop and soul.
The keynote address will be offered by Rev. Dr. Adolphus C. Lacey, Pastor of the Mt Olivet Baptist Church.
“Dare to Dream! is an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” Rev. Lacey remarks, “Dr. King’s courage, vision and mission should have inspired generations of dreamers. Are we raising up a generation of dreamers in 2011? To dream is have no boundaries and no limits—do you dare to dream and dream big?”
All are welcome to participate in this commemorative interfaith event to affirm our hopes and the dream of a beloved community. The event is free and open to the public. PAPA is an interfaith organization of over 90 local churches, synagogues and mosques that work together under the current leadership of the Bishop Michael Champion. PAPA has been in existence for close to 150 years, serving as a historic model for cooperation between communities of diverse beliefs and advocates the issues of social justice, hunger and homelessness in our area. A free will offering will be collected to support the PAPA activities.
