From April 8 -11, members of the Yorktown High School concert orchestra, directed by MESMS/YHS Orchestra Director Nancy Torrente, will travel to the Rhythms International Music Festival in Montreal, Canada, where they will play “The Intermezzo” from Cavalleria Ruticana by Mascagni, and the “Simple Symphony” by Benjamin Britten. Highlights of the trip will include being judged by a panel of nationally and internationally recognized music educators, participating in a performance clinic with the judges, meeting and learning from the Ensemble Caprice pre-concert and exploring historical city sites.
The YHS Concert Orchestra travels annually. Past performances have been in Quebec City, Vienna, Boston, Annapolis, Salzburg, and Philadelphia. “They continually represent themselves, their families, YHS, all of Yorktown and this year their country beautifully. They are a wonderful group of students I am privileged and honored to lead and teach them,” declared Mrs. Torrente.
