The Peekskill High School Student Council and Interact Club are planning a fundraiser for Miles Banks, a PHS senior who had a heart transplant this week. Read below for more information from the district on Miles and the event:
Two weeks ago, Miles Banks, a Peekskill High School senior, celebrated his 18th birthday. Yesterday, Miles had a heart transplant.
Miles is the fourth out of five brothers to attend Peekskill High School. His older siblings, Denzel, Marquise, and David, are all PHS graduates and a younger brother, Ahmad also attends.
A good student who is greatly liked by his classmates and teachers, Miles played varsity football and lacrosse for PHS. He and his brothers have all worked part-time at the McDonalds Restaurant in Yorktown. While Miles is recuperating from surgery at Westchester Medical Center, his friends and classmates want to do something to help. On Wednesday evening, May 18, the Peekskill High School Student Council and Interact Club, along with McDonald’s, are holding a fundraiser for Miles from 5-8pm at the Route 202 location. PHS staff and students will be “working” at the restaurant that night, and 10% of all the profits will be donated to the Banks family.
The Student Council and the Interact Club are two student service organizations that plan and carry out community-based activities for the high school and the neighborhood, respectively. Ms. Allison Risoli, Ms. Miriam Skrivanek, and Mr. Gordon Hubbard, all PHS teachers, are the advisors for the two student clubs.
“We hope that everyone can come, buy a burger and fries, and show Miles how much the Peekskill community cares,” explained Ms. Risoli, a social studies teacher and PHS graduate. People who cannot attend the fundraiser but would like to help can write a check payable to “PHS Student Council Miles Banks Fund” and send it to Peekskill High School, 1072 Elm St. Peekskill, NY. 10566.
