Assemblyman Steve Katz, R-Yorktown, is opening a new district office in Mahopac Saturday and inviting the public to drop by.
A reception is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 824 Route 6 in Mahopac.
“I welcome my residents from throughout the district to come join me at this community event where they can meet my staff, tour our new office, and find answers to any issues they may have,” Katz said in a statement. “Our new location is more central to the district and easier for residents to find when they come for appointments or just want to stop by to say hello.”
Meanwhile, Katz presented a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Development certification to representatives from Candella Systems Corporation, a Somers-based lighting company, June 3.
“It is imperative that we recognize and certify those companies which take major steps in the direction of producing energy-efficient products and providing environmentally sustainable service,” Katz said in a statement. “I am proud to present Candella Systems with its LEED certification, and I encourage other local companies to focus on improving their energy efficiency as well.”
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. The system is credit-based, allowing projects to earn points for environmentally friendly actions taken during construction and use of a building. LEED was launched in an effort to develop a “consensus-based, market-driven rating system to accelerate the development and implementation of green building practices.” The program is not rigidly structured; not every project must meet identical requirements to qualify.
Candella Systems Corporation provides services to customers on the East coast and Puerto Rico. Candella’s mission is to install energy-efficient lighting fixtures for both commercial and residential usage in order to improve energy conservation in the home and workplace.
