Peekskill Middle School is among five finalists for the Teaching Matters Inc., Elizabeth Rohatyn Prize for Innovation.
Thousands of votes were cast online for the top five finalists. PMS is competing against Bell Academy and Chester Park, both in Queens, West Side Collaborative in Manhattan and Academy Street Elementary in Bayport, Long Island, for a $15,000 prize that will be announced on July 11. The prize money is expected to be used to “support, sustain or further an innovative school learning environment, program or practice that has the potential to be replicated by other schools.”
PMS’ project is “implementing a wide range of 21st century strategies to improve student achievement in a highly challenging school.”
