The Yorktown Grange is busy preparing for the big event next month. From the organizers:
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, August 3, 2012 – Yorktown Grange Fair officials are ready to begin accepting entries for this year’s competitions which will be judged and exhibited at the fair September 6th to 9th.
Now celebrating its 88th year, the Grange Fair continues the tradition of judging the best produce, flowers, and livestock from local residents. According to historical accounts, the first Grange Fair was held at the suggestion of Chester Hyatt to “show off his fine potato crop and to see if other Grange members could match it.” Over the years, additional categories have been added to the competitions and entries are welcome from all area residents, not just Grange members.
“If you’ve raised it, grown it, or created it, and you’re proud of it, consider submitting an entry to be judged and displayed at this year’s fair,” urged Nicole Fervan of the Yorktown Grange.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Hometown Pride Shared Countywide” and the judging categories are as follows: art, baking, flowers, Legos, livestock, needlework, photography, poultry, and produce. Guidelines and entry forms for all categories are posted on the fair’s website, www.YorktownGrangeFair.org, or call 914-962-3900.
