Upcoming activities at the Yorktown Jewish Center:
MUSIC BY SHIR CHUTZPAH FEATURED AT FRIDAY EVENING SERVICE UNDER THE STARS
Shir Chutzpah, a group of musicians who are members of the Yorktown Jewish Center, will enliven the synagogue’s Friday evening service September 7. The service starts at 6:15 p.m. and will be held outdoors in the synagogue garden.
“Unlike the old Olympic Airline commercials, dancing in the aisles is encouraged,” said Rabbi Seth Sternstein, who leads Shir Chutzpah. “We think that music adds an extra dimension of joy to a Friday evening service.
“All are invited to join us at the oneg Shabbat celebration following the service,” he added.
Shir Chutzpah got its start six years ago and has been a vital part of an annual service under the stars every year since. The group consists of clarinetists Robert Altabet, Paul Gherson and Allison Kissel with Tom Marron on mandolin, Michael Mirsky on guitar, Paul Plotnick on harmonica and Josef Raboy on keyboard.
The Yorktown Jewish Center is a welcoming congregation that serves the community in northern Westchester County as well as Putnam County. This year the synagogue celebrates its 60th anniversary. It is located at 2966 Crompond Road at the corner of Loretta Street in Yorktown.
In case of inclement weather, the September 7 service will move inside to the synagogue sanctuary.
