Food collection at Croton school

A recent announcement from Croton-Harmon Schools:

In response of the recent losses associated with Superstorm Sandy, Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School launched a new “Kids Helping Kids” program. With the support of the CET PTA, students have been collecting necessary goods to donate to families in need in and around the Croton-Harmon School District community. Each grade level is being asked to collect specific items that are desperately needed, including toiletries, baby needs and new clothing, including gloves, pajamas and blankets to keep warm.

Collection boxes have been set up in the CET main lobby and the contents will be distributed to families as needed in the community. The drive began on November 6 and will run through November 16. Additionally, the CET PTA collaborated with local restaurants to provide students returning to school this past Monday with a hot lunch option.

Additionally, Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School teachers joined together to purchase pizza for students who still didn’t have power. Croton-Harmon High School milk monitor Carol Tozzi realized that the supply of milk would be spoiled by the time school reopened, so on her own initiative, asked her husband to drive to Diamond Dairy to pick up fresh milk to hold students over until the next delivery. With support from school administration, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edward R. Fuhrman and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Deborah O’Connell also opened the Croton-Harmon High School library to the public until 9:00p.m. from Monday to Thursday so that students and parents who were still without power had a warm place to work and complete their homework assignments.
