The Croton Caring Committee, which provides holiday meals and charitable services to families in the area, has been hit with a shortage of both funding and food. Greater demand due to Hurricane Sandy has created more families in need of a Thanksgiving meal, said Anne Kennedy of the Caring Committee. In addition, this year’s annual fundraising appeal coincided with the storm, resulting in fewer contributions. This year the organization is aiming to supply 36 gift baskets (complete with a turkey and side dishes), but it is falling short of that goal. Kennedy is asking for financial contributions to the organization: Croton Caring Committee, 38 Penfield Place, Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., 10520. Food donations – turkeys or anything else – are also welcome at that location, where a cooler is located. “Nothing goes to waste,” said Kennedy. The organization has been helping local people for three decades—food baskets during the holidays, trips to the doctor’s office, help with financial matters when necessary.
