Here’s a write-up of a fundraiser from BOCES and its technical center:
Yorktown Heights — While there’s no way to remedy the tragic loss of life that took place last week when a gunman massacred 20 children and six school employees at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, teachers and students at The Tech Center wanted the Newtown community to know that they are not alone.
Guidance counselors and staff on the campus of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES organized a cake and pizza sale yesterday, with funds going to the charities of choice of the families of the victims.
“I think the sale is a really nice way of helping their community to know that we are all together in this,” said Angelica Cardenas from Brewster High School.
“No one should have to go through what these people went through,” said Mahopac High School student Alyssa Morales. “I don’t know how someone could
hurt innocent children.”
The event, which lasted the whole day and offered pizza, cookies, cakes, soft drinks, and green ribbons in honor of Sandy Hook school colors, raised more than $1,500.
