A 5k race is being organized Jan. 19 to raise donations to build a new memorial playground that will be built in Newtown, Conn.

The Strides for Sandy Hook 5k will be held at the FDR Park in Yorktown. This will be a “family friendly” 5k, and participants are welcome to run or walk. Registration is $25, with all of the proceeds from the race going to Newtown Parks Gift Fund in honor of the lives lost at Sandy Hook School.

The registration for the event will start at 9 a.m., and the race kicks off at 10 a.m.
